Apophenia

We’re now $250 into the crowd funding of “Apophenia”, and I’m really happy with the progress so far. Thanks so much to everyone who has contributed, and done their part to make this album happen for me.

I wanted to write a little bit about why I’m crowd-funding the record and what I hope to achieve.

I funded the last album “Submergence” through Kickstarter, which was really successful for me. Releasing independent music is getting increasingly difficult in this day and age. Downloads dominate the market, and increasingly are the only way an independent musican can afford to release their records, but I still believe that there is a market of people who still love having a physical product, who still love record stores and still want to buy CDs and vinyl. When I was growing up, I was obsessed with bands like Pop Will Eat Itself and their amazing cover designs and sleeves. It was great to buy a CD in a store and pore over the sleeve on the way home, reading the liner notes, and admiring the design and photography. Many bands I discovered in my teenage years, I found from reading the liner notes of records, when bands used to include long thankyou lists of their influences and bands they were friends with.

I’ve tried to always offer something special with the Underpass sleeves. The first album “Disorienteering” featured striking black and white art from Hannah Biscombe an amazing local photographer and artist, which really made the CD something to take pleasure in owning.

“Submergence” my second album had amazing hand drawn art from Eisner award winning comic artist Becky Cloonan, and her contribution to the project made a huge difference in terms fo funding coming from the Kickstarter, with many people funding the record just to get the superb cover art.

I really want “Apophenia” to bring the same quality with it as a release. I already have ana amazing artist lined up for the cover art, but artists need to be paid, and CDs cost money, and that’s where you come in. By putting even $10 towards the project, you are helping an independent musician put out a quality release, that could never be funded any other way. Your contribution will not only guarantee you your pre-ordered CD or download but means that the release will be everything it can be, something that it will be a pleasure to see, look at and to own, and something that I can be truly proud of, so please take a moment to check out the link, and put whatever you can towards “Apophenia” support independent music and original art.
